Julia Gibson
Staff Engineering Physicist – Hardware EngineeringJulia (they/them) is an applied mathematician and engineer interested in hard quantitative and physical problems whose solutions can improve human understanding of the world and well being. After earning an undergraduate degree from Brown University and an M.Sc in mathematics at McMaster University, they worked for Sinclair Interplanetary, Rocket Lab Space Systems, and the Space Systems and Technology division at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where they made significant contributions to satellite missions and technology. Julia's engineering work has focused on physical modeling, embedded systems, and software.
Julia believes that medicine and energy/environmental management are two areas in which society especially needs innovation and is excited to use their skills to push the boundaries of NMR technology and its applications for medical and scientific applications. Julia also engages in applied math research with a colleague at the University of Calgary and provides occasional technical consulting services on especially interesting or thorny challenges.
Outside of their technical pursuits, Julia has biked from Maine to California, been a violinist in Manhattan, and is a professional visual artist and writer. They also enjoy unicycling poorly but with great enthusiasm.
