Afshin Kashani Ilkhechi
Senior Electrical Engineer – Hardware EngineeringAfshin’s fascination with electronics ignited at age six when he tore apart a blinking toy police car just to see how it worked. By eleven he’d designed his first PCB; at fourteen he built a security system for his family’s store—and in his early twenties he earned national recognition in the Electronics Olympiad.
Next, he completed his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta under Prof. Roger Zemp, developing transparent ultrasound transducers and high-voltage electronics for diagnostic medical imaging. Along the way, his curiosity blossomed into a love of teaching, earning him the University of Alberta’s Graduate Student Teaching Award.
After graduation, Afshin joined Clinisonix and later led the Electronics team at PulseMedica, where he designed mixed-signal hardware for innovative medical devices and loved guiding fresh graduates on real-world design bring-ups. He’s driven by improving patient outcomes with smarter hardware—an ethos that makes Synex Medical’s predictive-healthcare mission a perfect fit.
When he’s not at the workbench, you’ll find Afshin deep into a strategy board game, backpacking remote trails with a DIY sensor strapped to his pack, or happily tinkering in his electronics workshop.
