Originally from Flagstaff, Arizona, U.S.A, Emily attended school in North Texas for her undergraduate studies. After graduating in 2015 with a B.S. in Counseling, Emily worked in social service roles with foster children, unhoused families and students with learning disabilities. She witnessed the significant challenges that these marginalized groups face each day, and these experiences grew her passion for creating supportive, equitable, empathetic spaces. In the fall of 2019, 3 weeks before she was scheduled to begin an MPA program, she accepted a job at a software startup in Exeter, NH and moved across the country instead. During her two years there, she managed the entire employee lifecycle, optimizing the recruitment process for diverse and inclusive hiring and doubling the team in size. Currently, Emily is growing the team at Synex Medical, where she is responsible for recruitment and people operations. She also serves as the content strategist for Diversify Thinking, an organization helping startup leaders understand the dimensions of diversity and prioritize inclusion from the beginning.
